Traffic Violations Do you want your traffic violation dismissed? When it comes to a speeding ticket or any moving violation, you should seek a skilled Missouri traffic lawyer to help defend your rights. The Law Offices of Douglas M. Heagler can help.
What Happens When I Receive a Traffic Ticket? Contact The Law Offices of Douglas M. Heagler locally by phone at (314) 599-8425 or toll free at (888) 647-1448. or you may e-mail us at ticket@motrafficattorney.com and submit your violation information. By submitting this information it does not obligate you to retain The Law Offices of Douglas M. Heagler, but it does however, give us the needed information that is necessary to evaluate your case and present you with a quote for fees. Ocassionally it is necessary for your to fax or mail a copy of your ticket and sometimes your driving record is required. We will notify you if these documents are needed.
If you have sent your information to our offices via e-mail, within 24 hours of sending your traffic ticket information, you will receive an e-mail from the law office confirming receipt. If we agree to take on your case, the e-mail will include a quote for your fees related to handling your ticket. If you do not receive an e-mail within 24 hours, it is probably because it was not received, and you will more than likely need to resend your information. If for whatever reason it is later discovered that the charges against you are more complex than originally stated, our offices do reserve the right to adjust my fees accordingly. We also reserve the right to refuse representation to anyone, but this rarely happens.
You must pay the quoted legal fees to hire Douglas M. Heagler as your attorney and to begin work on your case. You will have the opportunity to submit your payment through Paypal, a secure online payment service using your checking or savings account, or you may contact us at our offices at (314) 599-8425 to pay over the phone with a credit card. You may also mail a check or money order to pay for your fees. No legal services can be performed on your behalf until the agreed fee is paid in full, and Douglas M. Heagler is not your attorney until payment of fees have been made.
Our offices will take care of all the paperwork and court appearance that is necessary to resolve your ticket. In many cases you will not need to appear in court. If you are required to appear in court, you will be notified of the date and time needed for your appearance. In some cases your court date will likely change from the date originally appearing on your ticket after the court has been notified that Douglas M. Heagler is representing you, so do not get worried if processing your ticket takes longer than you may have expected since the process can usually take several weeks to complete. Our office will receive a plea from the prosecuting attorney, usually ammending the charge to a non-moving violation (e.g. illegal parking or noise violation), along with the amount of your fine and court costs. The fine will generally be higher than if you had pled guilty, however, you will not receive any points on your license. If you find the plea acceptable, Douglas M. Heagler will accept the plea on your behalf, and then he will contact you to explain what has happened and what you need to do next.
You must pay the fine that is associated with the amended violation. In addition to your fine, you are also responsible for paying court costs. Court costs are charged on every ticket. Payment of the fines and court costs are time sensitive. The court will set a deadline for payment, and if you fail to pay prior to that date, the judge can revoke the plea agreement and will issue a warrant for your arrest. In most cases you will be required to submit your fees and court costs directly to the court in the form of a personal check, cashier's check or money order payable to the court.
For some cases such as DUI/DWI or where an accident may have been involved, there may be additional plea agreements that you will need to complete. These agreements can include a number of things such as registration with the office of probation, community service, driving school, or purchase of high risk insurance. The plea agreement entered will primarily depend on the circumstances of the case and your past driving record. Additional plea agreements are also time sensitive, so if you do not complete them prior to the court's deadline, the judge could revoke your plea agreement and issue a warrant for your arrest. Once you have completed your end of the deal, you are done!
